The Crushers after the 2013 Ride

Hi Crushers Fans,

The Cancer Crushers are thrilled to be a part of the Banff National Park Bike Fest!

Come on down to the 200 block of Banff Avenue on Saturday, June 14th, from 12:30pm-7:00pm to check out the Marketplace where vendors showcase local produce and handmade goods, and where we’ll be hosting our first spinathon of the 2014 season. We’ll be at the corner of Banff Ave and Wolf Street, and look forward to seeing you all there!

Thank you so much to Banff Lake Louise Tourism for reaching out to us and including us in this event! Bike Fest is not only about the competitive cyclists that come to town for 5 races over the 4 days, but it’s also about community events and celebrating Banff National Park as a world-class cycling destination– and we crushers couldn’t agree more!

Crushing last year's Spinathon at the Grizzly House

Hi Crushers Fans,

Yes, we’re back– after an amazing 2013 ride that raised $46,077.75, we’re refreshed and ready to crush cancer yet again. I’m very pleased to share that we will again be renewing our partnership with the ACF for 2014, and as soon as our new website is available, it’ll be posted here.

Our 2013 ride from Jasper to Banff was amazing in so many ways; first and foremost that we were able to raise so much money for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Secondly, for us riders, it was a truly cathartic experience– we were all riding as a team, but also as individuals with our own paths that brought us all to that same spot, riding for a variety of reasons that united us.

I’m happy to announce our plans for 2014: on September 6 & 7, 2014, we will be riding from Banff to Radium and back, a 270km adventure crossing 2 provinces, fundraising for the Alberta Cancer Foundation, to continue our mission of crushing cancer.

More details to come!

Enjoy the following picture; my bike is freshly tuned and Mt Rundle put on a show last night.

Hi Crushers Fans!

What an amazing, cancer crushing adventure. This past weekend, 16 riders and 6 support rode from Jasper to Banff– 290km of the amazing terrain we are lucky to call home. We have raised $42,808 (and counting!) for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

This ride was an incredible success in so many ways, and I’d like to take some time to thank those responsible!

To our donors: thank you, so much. Without you, we would have been 22 fools who rode from Jasper to Banff with nothing to show but sore butts. With you, we reached and surpassed our fundraising goal on behalf of the Alberta Cancer Foundation. With you, we are that much closer to crushing cancer for good.

I’d like to thank our major donors in particular:
To the staff and patrons of Tony Roma’s Banff, who made our silent auction a success, and to the staff who donated their tips all day… you are all so wonderful, and inspiring, and kind.
To the Bear Street Tavern, for your donation and the Bison Courtyard for allowing us to muster outside for our team rides and use the courtyard for our spin-a-thon– thank you!
To the Grizzly House, who sponsored our Mother’s Day spinathon– you were so kind and generous to host our first big event of the year.
To Rebound Cycle, for getting our bikes in tip-top shape, and for donating your bike trailer for the weekend… we would have been in much worse shape without you!

I’d like to thank our support crew: Jim & Andy for sharing your “major cycling event knowledge” that we would have (literally) been lost without. I probably would be in Red Deer right now without your guidance, and your fuel food was absolute top notch. Dan, thank you for riding sweep with us, helping keep track of all of us Crushers and keeping use going. Joe & Tyler for your support, joining us in our rides, and documenting what will forever be in my mind as one of the most epic weekends ever. To my Dad, Rick, who drove support and joined us in the ride on Day 2. This weekend wouldn’t have been the same without any of you.

I’d like to thank the original Crushers: Kiwi, thank you for dreaming this team up! And for recruiting Erin, Penny, and Leslie… and later on, the rest of us. Over the last five years, the Crushers have raised $150,000 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation– that wouldn’t have happened if that first step (or pedal?) hadn’t been taken.

I’d also like to thank those Crushers who went above and beyond this year in organizing events (and the team)– Toni, Lynette, Erin, and Kristine. You were like the most bad-ass guardian angels anyone could ever want. You’re amazing.

This event was cathartic to the extreme; breathtaking and unforgettable and so inspiring. All of us rode for our own reasons; be it in memory of those we’ve lost, in honour of those who fight, or for ourselves to prove cancer’s got nothing on us. In honour of all of those for whom we rode, and to a future where cancer has been fully crushed– thank you, everyone, for making this past weekend the incredible success that it was. I feel like I personally lived this quote by Margaret Mead: “A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

The 16 riders and 6 support who rode 290km from Jasper to Banff, raising over $42,000 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR AMAZING SUPPORT !! LOOK WHAT YOU DID……

We have hit and exceeded the $40,000 goal and it’s thanks to all the incredible people who have helped us make this year’s ride the best ever in so many ways. We are stoked !!

And yes…we are for sure still accepting donations, every dollar counts and makes a difference. The ride is this coming weekend – we are all looking forward to it and we hope to see you at the Brew Pub in Banff on Sunday evening at 7:00 pm to celebrate

Hi Crushers Fans,

We received a couple of items after our silent auction that didn’t make it to the bidding table; however, we’ve decided to offer these up as a blind auction, ending Tuesday, September 3 at 4pm MST.

What is a blind auction? A blind auction is one in which we will tell you what the items are, what they are valued at, and what our minimum bid is. From there, you submit your maximum bid. This is dubbed a “blind” auction because you don’t know what others are bidding, so be careful (and generous!) if you really want to win! Or perhaps you think no one else is going to bid so you “Price is Right” it up and bid $1 over the minimum. Ohh, ahh, the intrigue is endless!

RULES:
Our 2 blind auction items are below.
 Bidding is open from Tuesday, August 27 @ 4pm MST – Tuesday, September 3 @ 4pm MST.
 To make your bid:

  • Use the CONTACT US form with the following information
    • your name
    • your phone number
    • your e-mail address
    • which item you’re bidding on
    • your maximum bid for that item

We will contact the winners by Wednesday, September 4 at noon.
